Today, 780 million people live without access to clean drinking water. With the demand for water expected to grow to 55% by 2050, the number of people continues rising day by day. Adaptable. Diverse. Locally-Led. Effective. In every project Wine To Water executes, strategies for social, environmental, and economic change are considered. When access to water is achieved, the doors of life and opportunity open beyond anything imaginable. First and foremost, time in healthcare facilities from waterborne illnesses is drastically eliminated, clearing time for education, businesses, and community investment, and reducing health costs. Regularly, women and children walk for hours to collect water. With a tap stand, well, or filter, they can dedicate more time to economic development, education, and more!
HOW WE WORK
Wine To Water believes in good work done well. It is not just what we do, but how we work that matters. In each of our international offices, WTW has established a team that is staffed and managed 100% by nationals of the respective countries. This is essential for the success and sustainability of our programs: to establish trust, provide education and training in native languages, and a deep understanding of the local culture.
Our organization’s experience and strength are rooted in community-based clean water access, filtration, and WASH education focused on transformation. We prioritize engaging communities and empowering local leaders with tools and training.
Wine To Water is committed to providing clean water solutions that are adapted to the communities they serve. Each water system is unique, but comprised of some or all of these strategies:
Water User Committee - village leadership, typically 50% women, determine project design, local investments, and long term maintenance
Water Access - harnessing a natural spring or drilling a borehole
Solar Powered Pump to Reservoir Tanks - remote, off-grid locations operate with sustainable, long lasting technology
Piping, Tap Stands - delivers water closer to where people live and go to school
Filtration - ceramic and hollow membrane filters make water safe to drink no matter the source
WASH (Water, Hygiene, and Sanitation) and Tech Training - leads to behavioral change, increased health, and community independence
Filter Distribution
WTW distributes water filters for free or at a reduced cost to communities who have access to a water source but lack easy purification methods. WTW works with three different types of filters that are distributed based on the community’s location and needs.
Community Water Systems
Multi-step, comprehensive clean water systems that are owned and maintained by the community they serve. They include a water catchment device, filtration systems, and water transportation to taps outside of homes or in other central locations.
Water4Schools
Provides access to water, handwashing, bathroom facilities, and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) education for students all over the world. Our model trains teachers on a provided WASH curriculum that is taught over the 9-month period of a school year.
